Our Mission
Our Mission
Men Matter Scotland was founded in 2019 by 3 dads in Drumchapel that were struggling with their mental health. After some initial popularity, the group began to focus more and more on men’s mental health as a whole - particularly preventing their suicide.
Just a few years later, Men Matter Scotland are Scotland’s leading men’s mental health and suicide prevention charity.
We have a staff team of 12 and over 30 volunteers all with lived experienced of mental health and suicidal ideation - guys who have been through it, helping guys going through it.
Although we are proud to be based in Drumchapel, NW Glasgow, our support is so badly needed that we have members come from across the country to access our support. We are now branching out to work in more communities across Scotland.
Our mission today is to improve men’s mental health and wellbeing through Peer to Peer support, preventing suicide and suicidal ideation.
We want to remove the stigma men face when talking about their mental health and save lives doing so.
Our Peer to Peer Approach
Although Peer to Peer support is at the heart of what we do - we are much more than just a talking group.
We run weekly groups, sessions and activities, facilitated on a Peer to Peer basis.
Men can meet in a safe and friendly place, talk openly, be listened to and feel supported without judgment in a confidential setting from people who are equal to you – your peers.
People say that “men don’t open up” - we know they do if you create the right environment for them.
Men from all walks of life come together daily to share their experiences, their struggles and their advice with one another. In our peer support network and groups you are able to talk to other men who have first-hand lived experience of similar situations.
Men can come along, take part in sessions, meet new people, learn self management techniques, get fit and have fun as well.
Or men can simply come along, see what we are about and listen without any pressure to talk. This is absolutely fine as well.
