TALKING GROUP
The talking group is a confidential, safe place for men to open up and speak without the fear of being judged or criticised.
We have group agreements that are talked about at the start so everyone feels safe and assured that they can talk freely. We pass round the ball so whoever has the ball speaks and isn’t interrupted. The talking groups gets the guys in an environment where they are talking about what’s going on in their lives around other guys and it becomes the norm to speak openly.
We always ask how your week has been and if you have anything to get off your chest, then we ask different questions each week to get you thinking and moving forward.
Self Management Classes
MOVING FORWARD with Nev
I had a destructive personality that saw me go through 2 divorces and numerous financial disasters, including bankruptcy, and loss of £121k in 18 months and more. I had a great career 32 years in the fire service but never realised the effect of trauma both in my career and more importantly, my childhood.
I made the change needed to take my life back and now feel able to offer the experience gained in doing so back to guys who struggle through a series of classes that support men to develop skills for mindfulness and meditation; understanding thought patterns and develop practical coping tools.
MINDSET COACHING with Martin
I have been through my own struggles in the past and had to change things around in my life, the main thing being my mindset. At times I felt like the loneliest guy in the world and after getting myself into a better place I didn’t want anyone to feel the way I did and that’s what drives me to work at MMS.
In Mindset Coaching I try to get the guys to change their mindset and thinking from negative to positive. If you can change how you think, you change how you feel. If you change how you think about a situation, you can change how you feel about it.
Most importantly, if you can change how you think about yourself, you’ll change how you feel about yourself. It’s all simple things I have learned through going through counselling and cognitive behavioural therapy and then going through my own studies and becoming a Neuro Linguistic Programming Practitioner.
IMPACT OF TRAUMA with Joan
I have worked in the care sector for approximately 30 years, and am invested in people and in supporting them in their personal journey to recover from trauma.
This 6 week course focusses on men who have experienced all forms of trauma, the impact this has had on them and developing strategies to recover.
It is delivered in a comfortable, safe and mutually respectful environment that supports learning and encourages engagement.
START LIVING NOW with Gary
Start Living Now is a wellbeing programme focused on present-moment awareness and emotional regulation. It supports people who feel overwhelmed, reactive, or stuck in unhelpful thought patterns by offering practical tools to slow down, understand their emotional responses, and respond more calmly in everyday situations.
The sessions are peer-led, trauma-aware, and reflective, with no pressure to share beyond what feels comfortable. Each week includes gentle grounding or breathing exercises, guided discussion around a central theme, and simple practices participants can use between sessions.
The programme is not therapy, but a supportive space that encourages self-awareness, steadiness, and personal responsibility at a manageable pace.
PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT with William
I have been involved with Men Matter Scotland for the last couple of years as a volunteer and part of the street team. I have a passion for helping people become the best of themselves.
I’ve been on a personal development journey over the years through training in counselling, NLP and mentoring in high schools. The biggest change I’ve made in my life is reading and writing every day to help overcome the trauma I have previously been through, and I will share the greatest things I have learned to help improve your mental health and overall well-being.
I will use my knowledge and skills to explore different ways of changing your mindset to stop living in the past, become present, and have systems and goals for the future. Get yourself along, get inspired and let’s have some fun along the way
Therapeutic Practices
SOUND BATH with Tony
I have been doing Sound Baths for the last ten years, as well as sharing different techniques on meditation, mindfulness and the therapeutic use of sound, through listening to and creating music.
Sound Baths use instruments with different frequencies to shift the brain wave patterns such that we come out of our usual thought patterns and shift into altered states of awareness - such as deep relaxation, dream states and various other levels. During the session, you can sit or lie on the yoga mat with a blanket and just relax and enjoy the sounds.
People have reported benefits of increased awareness, better sleep after the sessions, improvement in digestive, sinus and joint problems, and greater mental clarity.
BREATHWORK with Adam
I’m a breathwork coach and I work with individuals, groups, charities and organisations to share the tools and exercises that we can use to improve our mental, emotional & physical health.
I’m involved with Men Matter Scotland because I know how powerful breathwork can be, and how helpful it can be for so many people. At the weekly sessions we will explore different styles of breathing and how we can use these in day-to-day life.
Come along to learn how we can breathe better for improved sleep, stress management, emotional control, mental clarity, more energy and so much more.
HEADSPACE with Karen
I am a Hypnosis/NLP Practitioner and founder of Soul Sanctuary Glasgow.
I work with individuals to create positive and productive inner-change while regulating their thoughts, emotions and behaviour patterns.
Through the Headspace sessions I offer a calm and structured space where men can step out of overthinking while gaining focus and clarity.
INTEGRAL EYE MOVEMENT THERAPY with Emma
I’m Emma, an Integrated Wellness Coach and IEMT Practitioner working with Men Matter Scotland to support members with emotional wellbeing.
Integral Eye Movement Therapy (IEMT) uses guided eye movements to help change how difficult memories are stored. These memories often shape how we feel and how we see ourselves — turning past experiences into ongoing emotional reactions or fixed identity patterns.
IEMT works by reducing the emotional charge linked to these memories. There is no need to relive events or talk through painful details. Many men find emotions feel less intense, mental clarity improves, and old patterns lose their grip.
This is a direct, focused approach that supports real change without long-term talking therapy
BODYMIND MECHANICS with Dan
My experiences with mental health challenges, addiction recovery, and neurodivergence have taught me the importance of working with my body and mind – not against.
Mindfulness, meditation, breathwork, and mind–body centring have been integral to that journey. Now, more than ever, I believe it’s vital for men to show up in the world with mental and emotional clarity that is grounded in embodied presence.
Through Bodymind Mechanics, I share practical tools for cultivating that clarity and presence. Together, we’ll explore stress management and emotional regulation; compassionate self-awareness; body-mind integration and deep relaxation practices to soothe and strengthen the nervous system.
These sessions are an invitation to reconnect with yourself and restore inner balance so you can move through the world with grounded confidence, clarity, and strength.
Wellbeing Activity
MASSAGE with Beth
I am a wellbeing practitioner currently working with Men Matter to provide treatments to the members. I have been working with MMS in various ways since 2020 and having grown up in Drumchapel I love that I am able to give a little back to this community.
I believe in the ethos and values of this charity so much and know that it saves lives. My little part allows the guys some time to relax in a calm and safe environment, massage specifically relieves stress and can help with mood and anxiety.
HOLISTIC THERAPY with Heidi
If you are feeling overwhelmed or stuck in stress, pain, or emotional tension then this might be for you.
Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCST) is a gentle, hands-on approach that helps your body and nervous system settle — so you can feel more grounded, clear, and in control again.
It supports recovery from stress, trauma, and anxiety; promotes deep relaxation and emotional resilience, and helps you reconnect with your body in a safe, calm space.
The 1st session starts with a brief case history then you can just lie down, breathe, and let your system reset naturally.
GO WILD with Men Matter Scotland
Join Men Matter Scotland members and staff and take part in hiking, cold water therapy, paddle boarding, kayaking and mindfulness in the great outdoors.
FISHING with Andy
I’m Andy and I have been part of MMS from the start, from member to full time staff now. I take the members fishing twice a month on a Saturday.
Fishing provides a break from the daily grind or even a stressful week which can have a positive impact on men’s mental health.
Fishing provides a combination of physical activity, time in nature and social interaction which is proven to have mental health benefits.
“A bad days fishing is never a wasted day”
WALKS and COMMUNITY WORK with Men Matter Scotland
Join Men Matter Scotland members and staff and take part in walk and talks locally, reducing stress, improving fitness and strengthening relationships.
As a good neighbour, we also deliver community work - such as litter picks, painting and community clear ups - across the NW of Glasgow with local community partners.
COLD WATER THERAPY with Men Matter Scotland
Cold‑water therapy is the practice of immersing the body in cold water for short periods to stimulate circulation, reduce swelling and support mental wellbeing.
It’s a natural wellbeing technique that uses controlled cold exposure to create positive physical and mental responses - and can improve alertness and mood, develop mental resilience and improve overall mental health.
We work with Stretched, a professional partner, to deliver a controlled and managed experience for cold water newcomers and experts alike.
GYM SESSIONS with FORMA
Sort your body, sort your mind. If your body or fitness is causing you to feel low, you can attend these free sessions at one of Glasgow’s leading gyms.
No expectations of fitness, beginners welcome. Sign up at the Hub.

SHARED PARENTING SCOTLAND ADVICE with Alistair
Shared Parenting Scotland offers support and information to family members who may face challenges in maintaining contact with children following the breakdown of the parents’ relationship.
Our support focus leans to helping understand the Scottish Family Law framework, its demands and expectations, and how to communicate better with it and its participants. We hold support meetings every month in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, Aberdeen with free advice from solicitors, plus an extra online meeting for those further flung who can’t make it into our city meetings.
I come into the hub on a Thursday afternoon from 1pm to 5pm for the guys to have private chats with me for advice.
