Anne Hughes
I joined Men Matter Scotland as Interim Director in July 2023 two days per week. I've worked in the Charity Sector for 27 years. Being a part of Men Matter Scotland is so rewarding and also feels quite unique. I'm so proud of the commitment everyone at MMS has to ensuring less men die of suicide; how any man, from any walk of life can walk through the doors and feel supported and be given the tools to build their own resilience. Watching the charity expand and grow is without a doubt one of the highlights of my career.

Martin Melly
I have been at Men Matter since July 2022, and I am now the Operations Manager working along with Head of Operations Fraser and the staff. I have been through my own struggles in the past and had to change things around in my life, the main thing being my mindset. At times I felt like the loneliest guy in the world and after getting myself into a better place I didn’t want anyone to feel the way I did and that’s what drives me to work at MMS.

After losing my brother to a horrific suicide in 2018, I lost my job most of my sanity and gave up taking part in life. I spent 4 years at home hardly ever going out just abusing alcohol and drugs I eventually got help from 2 amazing people who helped me live life again. My support worker took me to MMS.I had no idea what MMS was or what it does, but it turned it to be the first place in my life that I fitted in. this place and the people helped me change my life. I am now a full-time member of staff.

Jerome Neville
Started September 2021 as a volunteer and went on to work with mms full time, had a destructive personality that saw me go through 2 divorces and numerous financial disasters including bankruptcy and loss of 121k in 18 months and more. I had a great career 32 years in the fire service but never realised the effect of trauma both in my career and more importantly my childhood. I made the change I needed to take my life back and now feel able to offer the experience gained in doing so back to the guys who struggle through a series of classes

Chris Bruce
I found men matter after I suffered a mental breakdown earlier in the year. I was struggling with just about every aspect of my life and I felt so isolated and alone but in men matter I found a place I could open up and feel like I belonged – they literally saved my life. I quickly took up a volunteer role within the organisation providing a safe place and support where men can open up and also come into the hub as disability employment advisor providing advice and support on a number of issues and benefits enquiries

In November 2023 I walked through the doors of Men Matter Scotland in need of assistance following being suicidal and depressed. Using the session delivered in the hub I have learned to use the tools to completely turn my life around. I now deliver training sessions to the members on mindfulness, mediations and positive thinking. I have completed Suicide First Aid, peer to peer, mental health first aid and awareness of mental health training. I am now undertaking Counselling training to develop my existing skills in delivering 1-1 sessions.

I Came to MMS because I wanted to help men that were struggling like I have in the past and use my experience to help others. I really liked what the guys were doing on the street team so joined that and now with the help of men matter I now facilitate a MMS talking group in my home town of Kilsyth using the training that MMS provided to help men in my area.
